VIDEO: Ricketts Responds to Second Trump Assassination Attempt: “Settle Our Disagreements with Ballots, Not Bullets”

September 18, 2024

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Pete Ricketts (R-NE) responded to the second assassination attempt against former President Donald Trump in as many months. Ricketts made the comments while on a conference call with Nebraska media.

“As I’ve said repeatedly, political violence is anti-American,” Ricketts said. “Any attempted political assassination is an attack against our very values. It’s an attack on our republic. In our great country, we settle our disagreements with ballots, not bullets. We need to make sure it always stays that way.”

Ricketts criticized the Secret Service for repeatedly refusing to answer questions about the assassination attempts. He called for a complete, swift, and transparent investigation.

“Any information gathered about either attempt must also be shared with the American people as soon as possible,” Ricketts closed. “Every Nebraskan and Americans across the country should be confident that all presidential nominees will be protected equally. I’ll do all I can to make sure the Secret Service follows through.”

TRANSCRIPT:

Senator Ricketts: “On Sunday, our country faced the second assassination attempt against former President Donald Trump in just as many months.

“First, I’m incredibly grateful for President Trump’s safety.

“I also appreciate the law enforcement officers who quickly apprehended the suspect.

“As I’ve said repeatedly, political violence is anti-American.

“An attempted political assassination is an attack against our very values.

“It’s an attack on our republic.

“In our great country, we settle our disagreements with ballots, not bullets.

“We need to make sure it always stays that way.

“As U.S. Senator, I’m demanding a complete, swift, and transparent investigation into the assassination attempts.

“We still haven’t gotten clarity on the first assassination attempt!

“In fact, the Secret Service has repeatedly refused to answer simple, specific, direct questions.

“Any information gathered about either attempt must also be shared with the American people as soon as possible.

“Every Nebraskan and Americans across the country should be confident that all presidential nominees will be protected equally.

“I’ll do all I can to make sure the Secret Service follows through.

“I’ll say one more thing: Democrats need to stop the violent rhetoric they’ve used against Donald Trump.

“President Biden said: ‘it’s time to put Trump in a bullseye.’

“He also called Donald Trump the ‘one existential threat’ our country faces.

“Kamala Harris once joked about killing Trump or a member of his Cabinet.

“This rhetoric has no place in America. Each of us should condemn it.”
