WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Pete Ricketts (R-NE) released the following video statement marking the beginning of Passover.

“Hi, this is Senator Pete Ricketts from the great state of Nebraska.

Tonight, Jewish communities in America, Israel, and around the world will celebrate Passover.

The Festival of Freedom commemorates the exodus of the enslaved Israelites from Egypt.

For millennia, the Jewish people have celebrated Passover in frequent fear of persecution.

Passover is a time to reflect on the past and to celebrate freedom and faith.

It is also a time to reflect on our freedoms here at home.

I am thankful that we live in a country where all Americans can practice their faith freely and openly. But we must stand vigilant to protect that religious freedom each and every day.

To all those gathering this evening around the Seder table, my family and I wish you a joyous and happy Passover.

May God bless our great state of Nebraska and may God continue to bless our great nation.”
