Ricketts Will Oppose Lew for Ambassador to Israel

October 24, 2023

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Pete Ricketts (R-NE), a member of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, announced he will vote against Jack Lew to serve as U.S. Ambassador to Israel. The Committee is expected to vote on the nomination as soon as tomorrow.

Ricketts released the following statement:

“Jack Lew’s previous appeasement of Iran should have been a disqualifier for this position from the beginning. Regrettably, President Biden nominated him anyway.

“Iran – both directly and indirectly through its proxies like Hamas – wants to annihilate Israel. Lew directly tried to give them the cash and weapons to do it. Lew’s Treasury Department tried to give Iran access to the U.S. financial market despite testifying to Congress he was not.

“Our closest ally is in a fight for its very existence. We can’t send them an ambassador who worked against them.”
