Ricketts Statement on Debt Ceiling Vote
June 1, 2023
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Pete Ricketts (R-NE) released the following statement after voting against H.R. 3746, the bill to increase the debt ceiling:
“There are a lot of things Nebraskans should like in this agreement, but I believe the federal government has two primary responsibilities: to provide opportunity instead of hand-outs and to keep Americans safe. Despite reasonable amendments that would have addressed both, this bill ultimately adds more welfare spending and underfunds our national defense. At a time when our economy is desperate for more workers and our nation faces increasingly hostile threats from adversaries like the Chinese Communist Party and Russia, this bill failed to deliver the solutions that we need.”
