Ricketts Highlights 2025 Senate Priorities
January 8, 2025
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Pete Ricketts (R-NE)highlighted his 2025 Senate priorities. Ricketts made the comments while on a conference call with Nebraska media.
“There’s a lot of work to do this year,” Ricketts said. “The Senate will play a key role in implementing President Trump’s agenda. We need to secure the border, go after drug cartels, and keep Americans safe. We need to unleash American energy and lower prices for consumers. We need to extend the Trump tax cuts. We need to exercise our ‘advice and consent’ role in the U.S. Senate and confirm President Trump’s nominees.”
“We need to provide proven solutions to streamline government,”Ricketts continued. “And we need to pass a comprehensive, five-year Farm Bill that includes Nebraska’s priorities. I’m committed to working with President Trump and my colleagues to deliver conservative solutions for Nebraskans. I’m ready to work. And I’m excited about what we can accomplish.”
Ricketts will continue to serve on the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works and the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations. He will also join the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs and the Senate Committee on the Budget.
TRANSCRIPT:
Senator Ricketts: “I’m honored to continue to serve Nebraskans in the U.S. Senate. It’s a wonderful opportunity.
“For four years, we saw overregulation, an appeasement-first foreign policy, and reckless spending from the Biden-Harris administration.
“President Trump’s re-election, along with Republican majorities in the Congress, provide a great opportunity to get our country back on track.
“There’s a lot of work to do this year.
“The Senate will play a key role in implementing President Trump’s agenda.
“We need to secure the border, go after drug cartels, and keep Americans safe.
“We need to unleash American energy and lower prices for consumers.
“We need to extend the Trump tax cuts.
“We need to exercise our ‘advice and consent’ role in the U.S. Senate and confirm President Trump’s nominees.
“We need to provide proven solutions to streamline government.
“And we need to pass a comprehensive, five-year Farm Bill that includes Nebraska’s priorities.
“I’m committed to working with President Trump and my colleagues to deliver conservative solutions for Nebraskans.
“I’m ready to work. And I’m excited about what we can accomplish.
“I’m pleased that, under Majority Leader John Thune’s leadership, the Senate will return to a more normal work schedule.
“Since 2001, the Senate has averaged 164 session days per year.
“Last year, Democrat Leader Chuck Schumer only scheduled 132 days.
“Leader Thune has scheduled 179 days.
“Most Americans work Monday through Friday. This year, the Senate will do the same.
“More days in session will mean more opportunity to deliver President Trump’s agenda.
“We’re going to show up until our work gets done.
“That’s the way it should be.
“In addition, I have some new committees.
“In fact, I will be serving on four committees this Congress.
“I’ll continue serving on Environment and Public Works and Foreign Relations.
“And I’m excited to bring my business experience to the Budget Committee and Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs.
“On the Environment and Public Works Committee, I’ll continue to cut the red tape that costs Nebraska families money.
“The Biden-Harris administration finalized more than 5,000 new rules in just four years.
“This cost American families $3,300 per year as long as these rules are in place.
“This includes their delusional mandate to force us to buy EVs.
“I’ll work with President Trump to reverse these.
“On the Foreign Relations Committee, I’ll help President Trump restore American strength on the world stage and make us safer.
“I’ll be the second highest-ranking Republican on that committee.
“I’ll work with President Trump’s nominees for important diplomatic positions and get them approved.
“And I’ll work with him to support our allies and deter adversaries like the Chinese Communist Party.
“That’s how we will keep Americans safe.
“I’m also excited to join the Budget Committee and the Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee.
“The Budget Committee is responsible for drafting the budget plans for Congress.
“It will create the framework for action on spending, revenue, and debt-limit legislation.
“On the Budget Committee, I’ll ensure Nebraska priorities are included as we extend the Trump tax cuts.
“Meanwhile, the Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee is responsible for everything from banks and federal monetary policy to foreign trade promotion and housing.
“Nebraska has a robust financial service industry.
“And housing is a top issue in many parts of our state.
“My business experience will help enact policies that support job creators, promote growth, develop capital, and protect consumers.”
