Ricketts Blocks Schumer’s Attempt to Pass Anti-Second Amendment Bill on Senate Floor

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Yesterday on the Senate floor, U.S. Senator Pete Ricketts (R-NE) blocked an attempt by Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and Senator Martin Heinrich (D-NM) to pass a bill infringing upon the rights of law-abiding gun owners.
“The Majority Leader has decided to bring up a bill called the BUMP Act,” Ricketts said. “He claims this bill will ban bump stocks. But just like his previously misnamed bills, if you actually read the bill, that’s not what it does!”
This bill is about banning as many firearms accessories as possible and giving ATF broad authority to ban most semiautomatic firearms,” Ricketts continued. “It’s an unconstitutional attack on law-abiding gun owners.”
“The Majority Leader knows this bill will not pass,” Ricketts said. “It won’t pass because enough people in this building still believe in the Constitution. And the Constitution affords Americans the right to own a firearm. This vague, overreaching bill directly infringes on that right.”
