Ricketts to host ag forum at state fair addressing trade, ethanol

NTV

GRAND ISLAND, Neb. — Senator Pete Ricketts takes Mexico to task for threatening to shut out Nebraska corn, while he slams the EPA for ethanol policy.

Those are just two topics scheduled to be discussion as Sen. Ricketts hosts an ag forum at the Nebraska State Fair on August 26.

The Federal Issues Forum will be held the first Monday of the fair, August 26 starting at 10 a.m. at Raising Nebraska.

“It’s important we do everything we can to protect our number one industry in the state which is agriculture and that’s why we’re doing this Federal Issues Forum at the State Fair,” Ricketts told NTV. “I want to make sure Washington knows what challenges agriculture is facing in states like Nebraska.”

The event is open to the public. Ricketts said visitors are free to stop by as they’re able and listen to three panels with experts.

The issue of trade is one where Ricketts is critical of the Biden administration, saying it has “done absolutely nothing on trade.”

He also said the state can help reduce impacts of environment by using biofuels and is critical of the administration’s push to use electric vehicles.

“The administration is not doing anything on that. They are not helping us out, promoting ethanol, biodiesel, renewable diesel,” he said.

Nebraska corn growers have also raised objections to Mexico’s position on biotech corn. Ricketts said our southern neighbors have changed their stance but he said it’s a violation of the USMA trade deal.
