Ricketts Statement on Vote Blocking EPA Trucking Emissions Rule

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Pete Ricketts (R-NE) released the following statement after voting in support of Senator Deb Fischer’s Congressional Review Act legislation blocking a rule from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) on heavy-duty vehicle emissions.

“Another week, another Biden administration regulation that is detached from reality,” said Senator Ricketts. “Once again, EPA bureaucrats are telling Nebraskans they don’t understand us, they do not care about our quality of life, and they do not care about the hardworking Americans who will pay the price of their regulations. This overly burdensome rule will increase costs for truckers and therefore increase costs for consumers. It will also disproportionately impact owner-operator truck drivers who can least afford the high cost of implementing this mandate.

“In this time of high inflation, Americans need relief, not regulation. I thank Senator Fischer for her leadership on this issue and I was proud to support this effort today.”

Senator Ricketts is a co-sponsor of Fischer’s legislation, S.J. Res. 11, which was introduced in February. The EPA estimated the technology required to meet the rule’s standards will cost between $2,568 and $8,304 per vehicle.
